SIENA

A historical city par excellence, Siena, has basically remained intact within the ancient walls and the green areas and gardens that surround the city that are still visible in many places. The historical center, completely pedestrianized since 1966, is easily walkable for its size.

The buildings and churches are adorned with works of art dating back to the 12^th century: the Cathedral (Duomo) where you can still see a trace of the interruption of work due to the plague that hit the city and all of Europe in the 13^th Century, the town hall (Palazzo Pubblico), the “Tower of the Eater” (la Torre del Mangia) and Piazza del Campo are all one of a kind. The Piazza del Campo is famous for its uniqueness and for the celebrated Palio (horse race between the city’s 17 districts) that occurs on July 2^nd and August 16^th each year.

It is easily reachable by car and parking is available in one of the many parking lots (some with escalators to easily reach the historical city center). There are also numerous daily bus trips from Florence to Siena that take about an hour.
